What are your favorite English words?



Some words just melt on our tongues. Others ring in our ears like an angel's song. All types of words and sensational sounds exist in the English language. Funny, classy, difficult to pronounce, silly, strong, soft, borrowed foreign ones - anyone want a burrito?

But ones which invite us to speak Spanglish, like man, internet, people, weekend, OK, mission, know how, shampoo and cool make up my top ten of those tasting bad on the tongue.

 


Now, when it comes to favorite words there are numerous lists on the web. Interestingly almost all of them include the words love and serendipity. As for me, besides 'br-ree-tow' of course, I like refrigerator, spoon, (if you haven't guessed I'm ravenous right now), and Ft. Lauderdale (because no one knows how to pronounce it).  I like mist and dew in the morning, twilight and moonshine in the evening, and wouldn't you agree that the Sesame Street character Snuffleupagus has a super rad name? 



There are many words out there and they're all fun. What are your favorites?

    Here's a list of my favorite words:

    - Extravaganza, Flamboyant (blame wraslin' for those two LOL), Vigilante (blame Police Academy 4!), Scenario (I used it a lot teaching grammar)... and there's two words in English that I really love: ORANGE and BLUE!

    I love using the words can and welcome I like how they sound. I like the word teenager is fun. the word baby is beautiful. I don't like the word think, I do not like the sound of the word Wednesday.

    I like food names but suddenly not pronounce it good or not their pronunciation. I love eating the word as pronounced. I do not like the pronunciation of the word Monday

    "Serendipity" is a great word. :3 I'm also partial to words that are tricky to pronounce, such as "supercilious", "privy", and "gauge". :3

    - become:This was the first word I learned to say in English, although typically learns mom and dad, I learned "become" because I found very funny its pronunciation

    I love the word Starbucks. I really like writing with Chat Acronyms and Text Message words. Some examples are:

    2nite: Tonight
    4ever: Forever
    B4: Before
    B4N: Bye for now
    BTW: Bye the way
    C ya: See you
    U: You
    F2F: Face to face

    These are a little bit acronyms of many that English language have!

    I think this is a really subjective topic, favorite words are for many just sounds, others like more the meanings but for me favorite words are related with the use they can give you. Words like, however, although, nevertheless, contrary to, are connectors that help you to merge ideas and thoughts and those words give to the sentences power and conviction.

    I really like the words like chemestry, kitchen, shoulders, hurt, feel, love, study, prefer, skate, swim, run, dance, lettuce (for the pronunciation), green , peace, sneakers, pink, black, magic, people, city, shopping, bike; and the words that I really hate are hierarchy, live, monday, show, street, foot, taste, waste, three, bill and moree.... also I hate the words that are harder to pronunciation, because is difficult to me learn how to speak well
